About Us

The Sjögren’s
Syndrome Society of New Zealand

Patron and Founder: Lady Felicity Tompkins

We are a Volunteer Not for Profit organisation formed to give support and information to people suffering from Sjögren’s Syndrome.

The condition causes many different symptoms, which challenge those with Sjögren’s Syndrome in many ways in their daily living. There is no cure for Sjögren’s Syndrome, and treatment relies on medication to attempt to suppress the auto-immune process, as well as medication and remedies (and occasionally surgery) to alleviate symptoms of dryness.

We are a friendly society and aim to help those living with Sjögren’s to find and share solutions to their problems and provide opportunities to meet and talk with others who have this condition.

We hold a yearly conference on Sjögren’s Syndrome, with helpful input from guest speakers from relevant medical specialties.

Membership provides extra information plus regular newsletters which are accessed from the Members Only link. To become a member simply fill out the Membership Application form and send it in to Sjögrens New Zealand.

The Application for Membership form can be found on the CONTACT US page.

There is a Membership Subscription of $40.00 per year. However, if this should cause financial hardship please contact the organisation.

Our operating costs are met from donations and membership subscriptions as it is important to us that everyone who needs information is able to access it.  HOWEVER we would be grateful for any donation you can give the Society. Please see the DONATION page for more information regarding donations.

Victoria Girling-Butcher, singer-songwriter formerly of Lucid 3, who is now performing solo, has agreed to become our profile ‘face’ for Sjogren’s Syndrome and to raise awareness of Sjogren’s Syndrome.

Victoria Girling-Butcher almost called her new solo album Tinctures, Elixirs, and Drink. She’d tried all three tonics to help her fight Sjogren’s Syndrome, the same rare, auto-immune disease tennis player Venus Williams also suffers from.  Her NZ Herald interview is at:
